Erickson entered the church as he always had in the past save for the extreamely humble clothing he wore. He dressed no diffrent then a common man to show humillity and poverty.
It was a symbol that told he was capable of being so. He foot falls had brought him slowly to the alter where his sword was relinqueished to the priest that had come upon hearthing the door. The heavy set man spoke quietly in soft set of prayer before telling the man to kneel and placing the sword upon the alter it self.
After a time the preist would disapear into the back of the catheidral. To appear shorty there after with a cloak which he would place over the shoulders of Erickson. His voice rang lightly in the church as he told the man that it grew cold in the large room when the night came. An that he could begin his vigil when he was ready the priest preparing daily bread which would be Ericksons only substance for the next twenty four hours.
It was in the silence of the room that erickson would begin by lighting the candles upon the alter with each one he said a small prayer each diffrent. He spoke the words of his oath asking for the strenght to do the duties required by him. This would take nearly a hour before all the candles were lit and each by steady hand. The priest watched this part of the vigil to make sure that every part was correct he was pleased when he needed not correct the man. Erickson had been through this before.
Once more Erickson knelt crimson pooled upon the back of his shirt as he bled from that whip to his back. An the wound to his arm from the swordsmanship contest earlier in the night. Ericksons white hairs had been pulled from there braid to fall free about his shoulders cascading gently. As he settled upon his knees his head would bow as his hazel eyes more blue then any other color lost there preditory gaze. His lips opened as his words like a song soon passed.
He would make the symbol of a cross slowly as he spoke in prayer it was latin and the only way true prayer was given in the times which the man had come to live. The first prayer was known as the sign of the cross.
"In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen "
Erickson spoke these words clearly each reverbrated though the halls of the Large cathedral. The preist was pleased as erickson begun the second part of his vigil the prayer. It was a chain of many diffrent prayers to make up one rosery. He would wait for the words to die off in there echo before beginning the next in the almost empty cathedral. The aposils creed came next it was a much longer prayer then the sign of the cross but once more every word was clear and echoed in the halls like a song to the god for which erickson prayed.
"Credo in Deum Patrem omnipotentem, Creatorem caeli et terrae. Et in Iesum Christum, Filium eius unicum, Dominum nostrum, qui conceptus est de Spiritu Sancto, natus ex Maria Virgine, passus sub Pontio Pilato, crucifixus, mortuus, et sepultus, descendit ad inferos, tertia die resurrexit a mortuis, ascendit ad caelos, sedet ad dexteram Dei Patris omnipotentis, inde venturus est iudicare vivos et mortuos. Credo in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem, vitam aeternam. Amen. "
These were the first two of a total of eight prayers making up the rosery which he resited and so few knew the dedication of the man whom they had only seen save for Rayna and Moon the woman who had come to love him. Ellian knew once as well that the once knight was a devout man who lived his life by the churchs will. In some way his dedication had made his life easier. In others it made him suffer. Either way it had made him a force deadly and not one easily defeated. He would again await the passing of all the words before he would begin the next prayer. Known simply as " The Our Father"
"PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen. "
The church had come into play when they had reilized that knights were doing things as courtly love and fearing that they needed more guideance they put the vigil into effect. However it was only knights of the church that truely had come to follow such a thing. Erickson had always followed the churchs will. The next of the eight was known as " the Hail Mary." The priest was very pleased with man as he had brought the words with out the help of the holy book but yet he would have to wait for this part of the vigil to complete before he could sleep and leave the to be knight in silence.
"AVE MARIA, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen."
The whole of the prayers were to be given in latin he would also have to confess his sins to be deemed worthy during the vigil in many ways that is why such things were kept private and for him and preist whom was sworn to safe guard the mans confessions. The next was the prayer of "Glory be"
"GLORIA PATRI, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen. "
Erickson let out a light breath with which a little fog was created from the warm breath greeting the cool night Air in the main chamber of the Catheidral. For the temperture had dropped substanualy over the last few minutes as the Priest said it would. The high vualted ceilings with there many stainned glass windows let in the moons light giving the place a godly feeling.
Erickson never shifted from his position nor ajusted the cloak the priest had put upon him. He wore simple wool clothing much like the common man to show he was humble and such things did not retian warmth well. Though he shook a little to the chill his voice was even with the next prayer he would speak. It was called the "the Fatima Prayer".
" Domine Iesu, dimitte nobis debita nostra, salva nos ab igne inferiori, perduc in caelum omnes animas, praesertim eas, quae misericordiae tuae maxime indigent. "
The next of the many prayers was soon to be given once more after the words had stopped echoing it was a prayer to mary whom was known as " the holy queen".
"SALVE REGINA, Mater misericordiae. Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve. Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevae. Ad te Suspiramus, gementes et flentes in hac lacrimarum valle. Eia ergo, Advocata nostra, illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte. Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui, nobis post hoc exsilium ostende. O clemens, o pia, o dulcis Virgo Maria. "
It was amazing the way erickson manipulated the word to almost chant each one so that they rang within the high ceilings the preist would never offer food or water to the man as his fasting had begun with the beginning of his prayers. The last of which did not have a name but began " O god, whose only begotten son" an this one was short as well as the final prayer of the knights rosery.
"Deus, cujus Unigenitus per vitam mortem et resurrectionem suam nobis salutis aeterne praemia comparavit: concede, quaesumus; ut, haec mysteria sanctissimo beatae Mariae Virginis Rosario recolentes, et imitemur quor continent, et quod promittunt, assequamur. Per eumdem Dominum. Amen.
"
The final words played in the air for some time as erickon's head never rose he would stay in this position for the next many hours as the priest himself rose not saying a word but moving to the alter to bath the sword which had been named previously Villa after the mans mother in holy water to clean it and prepare it to only to be used to smite evil. It was a belief that after this and a gentle prayer the weapon could only be used to smite the enemy of god never harming the innocent.
The priest then would leave the room opening a door to warm hall way it created a light breeze that sent both the tail of the cloak and Erickson's white hair a flutter only for both to settle once more about the man whom would not move from that moment on.
"In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen "
It would not be till the next night that Erickson would rise saying a quite prayer to end all prayer his words spoken as he made the symbol of the cross again. He would not eat till after the cerimony however that would to be given if it were given Though he would travel to his room leaving the church now behind him he the Priest would take his sword and provide it to the queen. It was the only time the man would be with out it. An his work was not finished the time to prepare his armor was at hand making sure it would perfect in ever manner and ready for joust. As well as his mounts armor was flawless he would then go to inspect his lances. Preparing for the joust that would proceed it.
