It had taken some time to accomplish. The mage had had his golems scavenge the remains of what physical holdings still remained of his new lab. He had the pieces assembled before him as he worked within the castle's smithy. For once, he was bereft of his usual robes, having traded them in for more practical burlap pants and no shirt to speak of. He had no intention of falling prey to his physical frailties and overheat without his magic to sustain him.
The hammer fell time and time again as he singlehandedly began work on bar after bar of steel, employing an array of other implements to gain the results he thought. Gears, springs, plating coming forth from his effort with years of practice in this endeavor. His tools were naught less than the ordered mess of one at work. Thus it was that he did not notice that presence worming its way up through his own mind, chiding him.
So, Kislev, enjoying your jaunt into the mortal realm? Planning to stay awhile and muck around in the dirt some more? The voice, the mental brush was one of a nearly overwhelming intellect, cold and hard as the very steel he worked would be if exposed to the most frigid of conditions.
Telanus. What a pleasant surprise. Imagine meeting you in this day and age. I thought you'd be off tampering with some inconsequential detail and risking the fate of us all. The mage's reply was rightfully gruff. He didn't need this individual's presence at this moment, without question.
It appears I hit a nerve. Someone a bit sour of suffering a personal punishment from the Eternal Itself for stepping beyond his bounds? Why, It even bothered to confirm its existence for us watchful ones by doing so! Quite impressive, I must say! Coldness gave way to a needling, nasal voice within the mage's mind. Still he worked on.
Are you deigning to lecture me on hubris, Telanus? I'll grant my situation is...unique among our kind. How individuals such as you did not suffer an earlier fate, I cannot know. There was a slight simmering of anger within Mathiu Kislev, and he overbent a spring. He would have to start afresh with this one.
Well, I don't go trying to usurp planar clusters and then try to create my own that defy It's laws. Balance, balance, little one. You never did understand that.
Those that would misuse aeternaflux have no right to manipulate it. I stand by my decision on that matter.
Hopeless as ever, Kislev. I'll catch up with you later. Though I am enjoying you trying to explain yourself to those you muck around with. Quite entertaining for the incarnate.
"Rhyus take you, Telanus, and your order as well!" He seethed, hands clenched to an eve paler shade of white as he yelled out. Being so physically bound was taxing to him. He had spent such time near ascension in Aetherius and here he had to start afresh once more. It was maddening.
He channeled that emotion into his work with renewed effort. He had a present to make.
