Orrick was in his room at the school laying on his bed going over the scraps of paper that would be his notes for his classes so far. He'd written everything down he could remember archery the night before. He would need to ask Aurora about if he had it all correct in his notes.
School was hard. it wasn't like farming where he'd do the same things over and over again until they became a reflex. It felt like everyday he had to start over unsure of what was going to happen.
He went back to studying The Knight's Code. He'd gone over it dozens of times each day, but it was when he stopped at 'A True Knight is Pure' that he always stopped to think, it stated that 'A True Knight shall not, in any manner. bring shame upon himself or Knighthood'. he always stopped right he to wonder what sort of things would bring shame to the knights. He thought that if a Knight followed all the other rules one couldn't;t possibly bring shame to the 'Knighthood'.
This question ate away at him. He always wondered if those private lesson's he was having with Emmanuel about magic might fit into that category. Emmanuel said that he was learning the magic so he could control the negative energy the ran through him. He really wish he could get another person opinion about his problem, but was always to worried to ask. How do you go up to a person and ask, "I have a problem, see my family was cursed a long time ago by a necromancer and now the magic seems to radiate from us and weird things happen." and they'd respond "what sort of weird things? does it hurt you?" and thats what bothered Orrick, every other man in family Had some sort of negative effects (usually involving people coming back from the grave) but Orrick... well he was fit as a fiddle.
If that fiddle where constantly being repaired and taken care of.
Emmanuel said it was sort of like a weed, stealing life from other things. He then went on saying that by learning how to control this energy he could then instead just suck in that little extra bit of life energy floating around that no one was using. Orrick thought it was a good thing to learn not to hurt people like that, but he wondered why Emmanuel continued the lessons with other spells meant specifically for hurting people. When ever Orrick asked, Emmanuel would just sigh and say 'Not everyone in the world are like the people at Horn, they are ignorant and not very accepting of things.' he would then sigh again and say 'Orrick, when Murry died, he asked me to make sure you lived a happy life, and to help you achieve your dream. You want to be a knight, and I will help you make that possible. But! I will not let you tumble into the dangers that came from accomplishing said dream unprepared, even if it does mean teaching you something most people might frown on.' after that Orrick was told to get a shovel.
Orrick shook his head abit and continued to study The Knight's Code. He decided not to care what people would think of him, he had something that resembled a family to him, in the first time in awhile. He decided he'd try his best for these people, and in turn, protect them now that he had the ability to do so.
